BADTri Challenge Amsterdam 2019

BADTri Challenge Amsterdam 2019

Have you ever considered racing long distance or are you an old hand looking for a race to target?
Every 2 years the club ventures away from the UK to target a late season long distance race, and planning for the 2019 race is well underway. The club would love you to join us in September 2019 in Amsterdam. Whatever your level, from complete beginner to professional athlete the race will give you the chance of some great racing and with plenty of time between now and September 2019, there is no better time to set things in motion to get yourself ready to race long.

Challenge Almere-Amsterdam - September 2019
The venue will be Europe's oldest Triathlon and second oldest in the world (after Hawaii). Set in Almere, a city just across the river from Amsterdam (25 miles from Schipol airport). The race is in early September (8 September in 2018) which gives the whole summer to build up to the race. It also means that the weather is often mild and pleasant, although sometimes windy. There are 4 race options available, Full and Half distance with relays in both. The course is flat and fast so a perfect place for both PB hunters and first-timers. It is also a 2 lap lake swim and 6 laps on the run for the full distance, so plenty of time for spectators to see racers. It comes highly recommended by at least one club member and several other friends of mine have rated it highly.
The race is also reasonably easy to get to, with good links from Bristol by plane, and a fairly easy drive across. Amsterdam and Almere are reasonably easy to find hotels or other accommodation, with plenty of options.

The BadTri long distance race team
As organiser, Chris Emmerson is looking to develop a sense of being part of the team with this trip. "I'm looking to identify anyone who is interested in racing in the next few months. There will be no commitment at this stage, if you are even considering racing, I urge you to sign up so I can keep you up to date with the ongoing plans. However, until time comes to enter the race, I will not be shutting off entries so feel free to sign up whenever you like. There will be a number of social events to try and help people meet other club members going and I hope that these will become more regular as the race approaches. I am hoping that I will also be able to put people in contact with each other so they can potentially train together or at least have a friendly face who they know during the build up. It's amazing how important a friendly face or good training partner can be in the build-up to long distance."

Other support Offered
Long distance racing can be stressful and tiring. However, the club has a wealth of resources to draw on. If you are new to the distance, or just want some help with it, the club will be providing some additional support to help you out. Full details of this support will come shortly. I also have a number of ideas (to be announced in due course), to try and make the race itself as stress-free as possible for all participants.

Interested?
The full distance is my favorite distance, nothing else quite captures my interest and passion to the same degree. However, in many regards I believe the Middle distance is the best distance in Triathlon, offering the best mix of endurance and speed whilst still being attainable by even the busiest people. For these reasons alone I'd strongly recommend you at least consider trying a long distance race, even if it is only once. If you are an old hand, there's still PB's to be had, and "bragging rights" grudge matches with your mates, and I hope there will be no stronger team to be a part of during your 2019 season.

I am planning on holding an evening event to discuss the race and provide some more information, plans for this evening are coming together and I'll provide them shortly.
